West Coast rafting at its best!

From the put-in, the Mokihinui North Branch river is steep and ‘creeky‘, with long technical rapids containing chutes, slides and drop off’s up to 3 metres, along with plenty of ‘boof’ moves and holes to keep the teams busy.

Enjoy the absolutely stunning scenery on one of the longest helicopter flights West Coast Heli Rafting has to offer. Tumbling from the mountains and the Thousand Acre plateau, the Mokihinui River carves through impressive bedrock canyons and sub-tropical rain forests as it rushes to the Tasman Sea.

This river run is best from October through till December in medium to high flows.

Day 1

Sees us raft for about 5 hours of non stop, fun class 4+ white water down the North Branch of the Mokihinui River. This is the most non stop technical rafting in NZ, without a doubt. To match that, we have a stunning remote river side camp only the rafts can get too. This river side camp has space for magical tent sites, a camp fire for relaxing around and cooking delicious food on. With the sound of the river and the birds, what more could we ask for?

The river is spectacular with some exciting rapids

Big pools in between the rapids are great for swimming and relaxing in

Day 2

We raft the last couple of km’s of the North Branch to join the South Branch which between the two of them create the Main stem of the Mokihinui River. Now a big volume river, we step up in to big volume class 4 white water as we raft on down into the Mokihinui Gorge. Next to us in the gorge is the Old Ghost Road, a new famous cycle way following the 130 year old horse pack track the gold miners built to trek gear in to their gold mining sites and camps. We may get the chance to stop and check out some of the old settlement sites from a 100 years ago. After about a 6-8 hour journey down the river, we will find our cars next to the river and finishing point of rafting.
